This is the first time that I have seen Dr. Seuss in an Order entered by a United States Magistrate Judge. The judge bases his Order on Green Eggs and Ham. but in the Order there is no "Sam, I am", only Dan and Jan, in the event the petitioner does not understand.
The case involves an inmate at a New Hampshire state prison who is suing officials over his diet. He sent the judge, as well as to the attorney for the state, a hard boiled egg. United States Magistrate Judge James R. Muirhead directed that the egg be destroyed and that the inmate, Charles Jay Wolfe, who is representing himself, not send any more food to the court.
In the concluding paragraph of the Order, Judge Muirhead writes,
No fan I am
Of the egg at hand.
Destroy that egg!
Today! Today!
Today I say! Without delay!
SO ORDERED (with apologizes to Dr. Seuss).
